Botswana pays tribute to ex-Bucs duo

VTM FC President Vincent Mafutha has paid tribute to former Orlando Pirates stars Sifiso Myeni and Rooi Mahamutsa for their contribution to Botswana football.

Myeni and Mahamutsa have parted ways with VTM after serving the club with aplomb for the past two seasons.

Myeni joined the club during the 2022/3 season and helped the team win promotion to the Botswana Premier League the following campaign.

The former winger, who also turned out for the now defunct Bidvest Wits, has since retired from football, while Mahamutsa's future in the Beautiful Game remains uncertain.

The latter turns 43 next Saturday, 26 October.

Mafutha has since urged the pair to remain in football and continue to serve the game in different roles.

"Their contribution to Botswana football was massive. Our football received international recognition, especially with South African media as they continue to follow their career in Botswana," Mafuta exclusively tells KickOff.

"Sifiso and Rooi didn't only have passion for the game, they had practical wisdom which helped VTM FC get promoted from Debswana First Division to [the] Botswana Premier League. Everyone wanted to watch them, hence our brand became vibrant."

"We enjoyed every moment of their stay. Batswana gave them love. They settled well and adjusted. I wish they continue planting the seed, teach youth structures, and hopefully get engaged with coaching or sports administration," he added.
