Ex-Downs boss sends message to Fadlu after derby triumph

Both sides were unbeaten heading into the game, and it looked as though it would stay that way with the scores level as the final whistle edged closer.

However, own goal from Kelvin Kijili ensured that Yanga extended their run of victories to five, and handed the Reds of Msimbazi their first defeat of the season.

"It was a close match, but derbies are often decided by a single moment, and today we took that moment," Yanga manager Gamondi said after the game, per IPP Media

He went on to praise the quality of the encounter, and credited the South African coach for his role in this.

"Simba have improved tactically, and it was a fantastic derby. I congratulated Coach Fadlu because it's great to have high-level derbies in Tanzania," the former Downs boss said.

"We are very happy, but this victory is for the Young Africans fans. They deserve this joy.

"I want to congratulate my players; they were fantastic today, following the game plan perfectly.

"We knew Simba would come out aggressively in the first 15-20 minutes, and they did create some chances. But we settled and played well."

With Davids' side now dropping to fourth on the table, they will be looking to bounce right back when they face Tanzania Prisons on Tuesday afternoon.
