'We aim to bring back Moroka Swallows'

Many questions were answered about the future of Moroka Swallows in Soweto on Sunday.

Swallows supporters and former players convened at Takalani Hall, a school for the disabled, in a meeting that took about six hours.

According to Bafana 'Congo' Malekutu, the meeting was fruitful.

"We held a meeting on Sunday in Soweto, at Takalani Hall, the meeting lasted from 10:30 until 15:00," Congo tells KickOff.

"And in that meeting, there were so many questions; the membership card-carrying members were there, Moroka Swallows legends, and our former jersey number 16 Andries 'Chaka Chaka' Mponfo was on the list.

"Mike Ntombela was also there. They all want to see the return of Moroka Swallows become a reality. We didn't even know we had Swallows supporters in Croatia.

"We aim to bring back Moroka Swallows. We discussed fundraising and owning the name of the club, and we looked for someone who could assist us.

"We are now known as The Dube Birds Shareholders and Supporters, a bank account has been opened. Anyone is allowed to donate whatever they have," he added.

"We also have some questions and answers we are also planning to meet the previous owners of Moroka Swallows. We don't know when it can be, next year or next season.

"We want to see the Dube Birds Shareholders and Supporters having a say in the club or maybe (have) 50% of the ownership of the team. And the other 50% can be owned by an independent investor.

"We want to be part of whatever is going on at Swallows, we want to revive the club. We will start by reviving all our branches in South Africa.

"The Swallows supporters constitution will be presented on various platforms."

Yesterday the supporters also donated cash and clothes to the school for the disabled.
