Nabi's clear foundation at Chiefs...

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has needed no more than six hours of official football to provide a clear pattern of what he is doing since taking over in July.

Nabi has overseen four matches to date, winning three and losing one, and what has already been evident is how he sets his stall in terms of line-up, movement and other dynamics.

The same system of four at the back with two central midfielders plus three on the offensive to support the top man has needed no advanced tactical understanding when watching with a bird's-eye view.

Fiacre Ntwari has been handed the responsibility between the posts after being signed during the off-season to bring stability to a department that was left needing reinforcement with Itumeleng Khune out and Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen not making the best of the opportunities that have come their way.

Ntwari kept his first clean sheet of the season in the 4-0 win over SuperSport United, blunting the critics' axes that were beginning to be directed at him.

With the adage that defence wins you titles, Nabi has not tampered a bit with his rearguard – Reeve Frosler on the right, Inacio Miguel and Rushwin Dortley as twin centre-backs and Bradley Cross on the left have played every minute.

For all the fuss around him, Yusuf Maart has been calm in maintaining his focus as captain starting with Samkelo Zwane twice, while he had Njabulo Blom and Edson Castillo in the other two.

The three offensive midfielders supporting Ranga Chivaviro as the number nine have been Gaston Sirino, Mduduzi Shabalala and Wandile Duba in the last three matches, while Christian Saile Basomboli was given a chance to start in the first match of the season against Marumo Gallants.

Mfundo Vilakazi has come on from the bench playing in all four matches with Pule Mmodi, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Ashley Du Preez and Given Msimango as the other players that have been used so far minus those that have started matches.

Nabi has indicated his desire to try and give all players a chance in his squad with the next transfer window due to open in January, but with an established spine his transfer interests will not be paramount.
