Klopp blasts Ramos: He's not my favourite guy!

Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has blasted ex-Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, insisting that the Spaniard is definitely not his "favourite".

The 2017/18 UEFA Champions League final saw Real claim a record-breaking third successive European trophy after beating Liverpool 3-1 at the Olympic Stadium in Kyiv, Ukraine.

While the match is often remembered for two howlers by then-Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius, one of the key moments from that game was when Mohamed Salah was forced to come off the pitch in tears after sustaining a nasty shoulder injury.

That particular incident became a massive talking point at the time, with some feeling that Ramos deliberately attempted to injure the Egyptian by hooking his arm in a dangerous position that led to a serious shoulder injury upon the Pharaoh hitting the ground.

Speaking on Toni Kroos' Einfach mal Lupen podcast, then-Reds boss Klopp has revealed his true feelings about Ramos six years after the incident.

"Is Mr Sergio Ramos really a good guy?" he said.

"He's not my favourite player. The action was brutal.

"Of course, he can't know that it's bothering his shoulder, but we all know that he accepted it very happily.

"I could never understand that mentality, I never had players like that and, when I did, I made sure they left."

Retired Germany international Kroos responded to Klopp by telling his compatriot that Ramos was "a very good teammate".

Klopp then replied: "He may not be my favourite player, but it doesn't matter.

"I always thought that my centre-backs were good enough not to be involved in actions like that."

Klopp recently accepted a senior role at the Red Bull Sport Group, which has sparked widespread criticism in Germany, particularly from his former club Borussia Dortmund.

In response to the backlash, Klopp said: "I didn't want to step on anybody's toes, definitely not, and personally I love all of my ex-clubs.

"I really don't know what exactly I could have done for everyone to be happy."
