Ex-Barca star questioned by police over alleged sexual assault

Authorities have confirmed that a former FC Barcelona star was brought in for questioning in connection with an alleged sexual assault at a nightclub on Monday.

Chilean police have confirmed that they are investigating an alleged sexual assault involving players of local football club Colo Colo, according to ESPN.

Among them is ex-Barca midfielder Arturo Vidal, who was brought in for questioning and a "standard identity check".

The prosecutor's office in Chile indicates that the alleged incident took place at nightclub in the upscale suburb of Vitacura, where a woman alleged that her sister was drugged and sexually assaulted by a group of Colo Colo stars who were at the establishment to celebrate at birthday.

Vidal was released from the Vitacura police station after his meeting with authorities but he did not comment on the matter. 

Other players are said to have underwent the same process and testified, although no official arrests have been made. 

It isn't the first case of sexual assault case involving a renowned Chile star, as it is also reported that former national team star Jorge Valvidia was arrested on 22 October on accusations that he had raped a woman two days earlier. 

Valdivia denied the claims and he is said to have been released on Monday but a Santiago court.
