EXCLUSIVE: Comitis explains Witbooi's Chelsea trial

The South Africa U17 international is currently in England, where he is undergoing his one-month assessment at Chelsea.

Even the likes of Manchester United have in the past enquired about the young dribbling wizard's availability.

He was signed by the Citizens in January this year, following his great performances at the School of Excellence and the national U20 team.

The DStv Diski Challenge star recently helped Amajita win the COSAFA Cup U20 tournament.

"Emile Witbooi, he is at Chelsea. We got a relationship with Chelsea, there's nothing else. He just started training with them, and he will be there for a couple of weeks," confirms Comitis, speaking to this publication.

"There's nothing else. At this moment, they are just assessing him. We do this for many players, we send players everywhere. So, we are having a look.

"There was an invitation, and we've exercised the invitation. We are just opening relationships at the moment, that's it. There is nothing else," continued the City boss.

Asked about the young midfielder's price tag, Comitis, who once set Khanyisa Mayo's selling price at R30 million, said at the moment there was none.

"No, this is just a training camp for Witbooi. We have a lot of top players, and we have a network of clubs.

"We have a crop of players coming through our DDC, he is one of them. We always give opportunities to our players, and this is an opportunity, and we are investigating it.

"Remember, Gabriel Amato once went to Westerlo in Belgium for assessment, and we do that on an ongoing basis to help our players to understand what level they have to reach to make the big standard."
