It has been suggested that as a result of his injury woes, the Blue Waves are considering the option of terminating the 32-year-old's contract in January.

Parting ways with the former FC Barcelona star would free up space for another foreign player but instead of shopping abroad, Al Hilal seem to be more keen on finding a replacement who is already plying his trade in the country.

According to Portuguese outlet Sport, per Bein Sports, the Riyadh-based outfit are seriously considering a move for Al Nassr star Ronaldo.

A January transfer could be on the cards, with sources close to the club suggesting that the side are willing to make a move for the Portuguese during the mid-season break.

Should the move materialise, it would fall as part of the Saudi league's ambition to continue bringing major international names in to the country.

Since joining the Knights of Najd, the 39-year-old is yet to win any major trophies with the side, while Al Hilal have managed to get their hands on the title four times int he last five seasons.
