Ex-PSL Star: I drank all my Man of The Match prize money

In this week's edition of "My First," KickOff catches up with former Polokwane City player Vukile Mngqibisa.

My First School:

"To be honest, I don't even remember the name of my first school, but it was located somewhere in the Eastern Cape.

"I'm from Lady Frere. I was six years old, turning seven. I cried on my first day because we weren't given free loaves of bread during lunchtime, which was something I was used to at my creche."

My First Kiss:

"Yoh! I don't even remember when that was [laughs]. The only thing I remember is the quick baby kiss I stole from a girl I admired in Standard 2. What happened was that I asked her for a hug; she agreed, but I caught her off guard and stole a quick kiss."

My First Favourite Club:

"Kaizer Chiefs. I will always be a Khosi. It's a team I have loved since I was a kid."

My First Soccer Boots:

"Olympic. My dad bought them for me after seeing one of his colleagues at work wearing a pair during a sports day. When my dad passed away, my mom continued buying me Olympic boots. If she went to a sports shop and didn't find Olympic, she would leave that shop immediately. She only trusted Olympic because it was stronger."

My First Goal:

"I don't remember my first goal; you have to remember that those of us who play as defenders score after nine months [laughs]."

My First Red Card:

"Still at Polokwane City, I received a red card in a game against Mthatha Bucks in the National First Division. It happened after I accidentally broke a Mthatha Bucks youngster's ankle. I needed police escort to leave the stadium that day because everyone was baying for my blood. The Mthatha Bucks supporters wouldn't allow me to sit in the stands after getting the red card, so for my safety, I had to finish the match sitting on the bench after being sent off."

My First Individual Award:

"It was against Orlando Pirates when I was with Polokwane City. We beat them 1-0, and Eric Tinkler was still their coach at the time. I won the Man of the Match award the same day I paid lobola. Prior to that match, we had lost three matches in a row, and we were coached by Boebie Solomons. The Man of the Match prize money was R2000, and we spent it all on booze. It was never part of my plans anyway; I treated myself."

My First Trophy With A Club:

"I have never won any trophy in the top tier. The only trophies I have won with clubs are the league trophies for winning promotion."

My First Car:

"It was a Mazda 3, powder blue in color. That was in 2014."
