'What remains is Sundowns lost to Chiefs'

Kaizer Chiefs legend Abel Shongwe has responded to the section of the fanbase that has taken to mocking the Soweto giants for winning the Home of Legends Cup on Saturday.

Amakhosi triumphed over Mamelodi Sundowns 5-4 on penalties in the final of the one-day tournament held at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Earlier that day, they secured their place in the final by defeating Golden Arrows 2-0, whilst The Brazilians overcame Chippa United.

Shongwe expressed his satisfaction, stating it is refreshing to see Chiefs taking every game seriously.

"Well done to Chiefs. The boys showed great cohesion and were able to contain Sundowns," says Shongwe.

"I hope they can bring this winning mentality into their league matches."

He emphasized the challenge posed by Manqoba Mngqithi's men, noting that they have a big squad that allows them to replace a good player with another equally skilled one.

"At the end of the day, Kaizer Chiefs beat Sundowns. What remains is the fact that Sundowns lost to Kaizer Chiefs," he stated.

Shongwe praised the Naturena-based outfit's performance, expressing his desire to see them carry that level of play into their upcoming matches.

"It's not that these Chiefs players can't play, they can. Chiefs have a strong team, it's just a matter of their coach finding the right combinations to achieve victories.

"Kaizer Chiefs can play, they are not a small team. If you are playing for Chiefs, you should know that you are representing a team known worldwide."

He explained that winning such tournaments helps build a winning culture within the team.

The tournament, organized by the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality, featured four Betway Premiership clubs, namely Chiefs, Sundowns, Chippa, and Arrows.

"It's every team's dream to participate in such competitive games during the FIFA international break.

"As a Chiefs player, you want to win everything in your path to leave a legacy in the club's cabinet," concluded the man nicknamed 'Chaklas'.
