EX-PSL star Zapata in line for Golden Boot award

Former Cape Town City FC attacker Juan Camilo Zapata has emerged as one of the top goalscorers in Liga Venezolana this season.

The player's revitalised form in front of goal is putting him on the brink of claiming the coveted Golden Boot award.

Zapata has experienced a remarkable turnaround since departing South Africa earlier this year.

After parting ways with Cape Town City in January, the Colombian forward signed for Club Deportivo Internacional de Barinas for the first half of the Venezuelan season.

His time with the club proved fruitful, as he netted an impressive 10 goals in 17 appearances during the Apertura phase.

For the second phase of the campaign, the 30-year-old moved to Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV FC), where he maintained his clinical edge, adding six more goals in just 12 games.

This remarkable tally of 16 goals has seen him tied at the top of Liga Venezolana's scoring chart alongside Panamanian striker Tomas Rodríguez of Monagas SC.

For Zapata, this season marks a fresh chapter in his career after his time in the Betway Premiership.

His current goalscoring form suggests he has found the perfect platform to reignite his career in Venezuela.

As the league edges closer to its conclusion, Zapata stands on the verge of cementing his name among the top scorers of Liga Venezolana in 2024.
