'Tau's decline in level must be investigated'

A former Al Ahly chief has called for a deep look into Percy Tau's decline during his time at the Egyptian giants, suggesting the player could do better if he moved elsewhere.

Tau, 30, has featured in three Egyptian Premier League matches this season, but all of his appearances have been as a substitute.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the current campaign, speculation is rife about his future.

The forward has been linked to a potential switch to rivals Zamalek, a move that former Al Ahly transfer advisor Adly El Keiy believes could revitalise his career

"I refuse to underestimate Percy Tau, and since Percy Tau is in Al Ahly, he is the best player with Al Ahly club, and he could shine if he moves to Zamalek," El Keiy said, as reported by ArabFive

"Percy Tau is a great player and his current level is not good. The reasons for Percy Tau's decline in level must be investigated.

"There may be clubs that have spoken to him and he is not focusing on Al Ahly Club.

"There must be a personal trainer with each player, and he must deal with the sports director on an ongoing basis."

Reports suggest that the Red Devils recently offered the former Mamelodi Sundowns star $300 000 (R5.4 million) to mutually terminate his contract, allowing him to join any club on a free transfer in January.

However, it has also been claimed that the Bafana Bafana international rejected the proposal and is determined to receive the full $600 000 (approximately R10.8 million) owed to him under his current deal.
