Both teams secured victories in their opening matches of the group phase last week, with the Egyptian giants defeating Stade d'Abidjan, while Pirates claimed a 2-1 win away at CR Belouizdad in Algeria.
According to reports in Egypt, Al Ahly are set to fly out to South Africa on Wednesday, and their preparations have already begun despite having played a league game against the National Bank on Sunday, 1 December.
Moreover, Egyptian outlet Youm7.com reports that Dr Ehab Ali, the therapeutic nutrition consultant for the Al Ahly first team, has created a special diet programme for the players ahead of their clash against Pirates.
It is said that Dr. Ali's programme is designed to provide the squad with vitamins, minerals and natural elements tailored to each player's individual needs.
The objective is reportedly to increase each individual's ability to perform at the required level while reducing the risk of muscle injuries.
Dr. Ali is also said to have a special file for each player in the team, which includes a regime aimed at speeding up recovery, maintaining muscle mass at measured rates, and eliminating the acids that contribute to injuries.
According to Transfermarkt, Al Ahly and Pirates have previously met four times in the Champions League since 2013, with the teams sharing one victory apiece and two matches ending in draws.
