Pitso: They might call me to come back one day

South African coach Pitso Mosimane has joked that one of his former clubs might call him back one day.

Mosimane met with his former club on Monday as his current side, Esteghlal, came up against his Al Ahli in the Asian Champions League.

The 60-year-old was unable to secure a win over his ex-club as the match ended in a 2-2 draw, with his side playing with 10 men for the last 10 minutes of the game.

In June 2023, Mosimane was dismissed from his role as Al Ahli boss right after guiding them to promotion to the Saudi Pro League.

The club subsequently replaced the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns tactician with former RB Salzburg manager Matthias Jaissle, who joined amid serious financial backing from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which saw them bring in the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Roberto Firmino.

Speaking before the match on Monday, Mosimane explained that he held no grudge against his former team. According to YSscores.com, he said: "I have beautiful feelings towards Al Ahli fans, and I am happy to return to Jeddah.

"It is an emotional feeling full of beautiful memories, but now we are getting over that and acting professionally, as this is life."

However, during his post-match press conference, a journalist posed the question: "Did they [Al Ahli] fire you because they didn't like you?"

According to HiHi2, Mosimane laughed and replied: "I don't know, but they might call me one day to come back."
