NEW: Al Ahly respond to Ronaldo links

With Cristiano Ronaldo being linked with a shock move to Al Ahly, the Egyptian giants have now responded to the rumour.

The Portuguese forward is currently in the final year of his contract with Al Nassr and will be free to negotiate with other clubs if his deal is not renewed by January next year.

Reports have linked the star attacker with a move to the Club of the Century, who are said to be keen on signing the former Real Madrid icon to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

The Red Devils are expected to make a strong statement on the global stage as they prepare to compete in Group A against SE Palmeiras, FC Porto, and Lionel Messi's Inter Miami.

It had been suggested that the group stage could set the stage for a final showdown between Messi and the Portugal international, who would, in theory, be representing the Cairo-based side.

However, this possibility now appears unlikely, with reports suggesting that the club has ruled out a potential move due to the player's financial demands.

According to Kooora, a source close to the Egyptian club stated: "Any team would like to sign Ronaldo, because he is a big name and a football legend.

"But Ronaldo's name was not put on the negotiating table with Al Ahly, and the marketing and contractual value of the Portuguese star is very large.

"Ronaldo receives an annual salary with Al Nassr, which is several times the budget of the entire football sector within Al Ahly."

It has been suggested that the former Manchester United star is eager to compete in the upcoming Club World Cup. If he manages to do so, he would become the first player to have participated in six editions of the tournament.
