RCD Espanyol de Barcelona announced that one of its youth teams is taking part in the esteemed IberCup International Youth Football Tournament taking place in South Africa.
The institution is the first official LALIGA club academy in the country, and had been established in 2022. According to them, participating in the competition marks a significant milestone in their journey thus far.

Currently training over 300 players, the club said that it looks forward to showcasing the club's celebrated La21 training methodology on a global stage.
"At RCD Espanyol, we are deeply honoured to contribute to the growth of football in South Africa through the RCDE Academy Johannesburg," said Nicolas Sorabilla, International Business Development at RCD Espanyol de Barcelona.
"Our academy represents our commitment to empowering young talent and fostering personal growth by sharing the values that define us as a club: humility, teamwork, and dedication."
The IberCup, one of the world's most recognized youth football tournaments, brings together players from over 170 countries annually.
With events in renowned football destinations like Spain, Portugal, and Brazil, the IberCup offers young athletes an opportunity to compete at a high level and experience a unique cultural exchange.
"RCD Espanyol has a rich history of connecting with African football," the club said in a statement.
"Club legend Thomas N'Kono, one of Africa's greatest goalkeepers, remains an enduring symbol of Espanyol's connection to the continent.
"Additionally, players like Cote D'Ivoire defender Eric Bailly have further strengthened the club's ties to African talent."
"This milestone is only the beginning of Espanyol's commitment to South Africa, with the academy continuing to play a vital role in shaping the future of the sport in the region," it added.
