Al Ahly set to snap up ex-Real star?

Egyptian giants Al Ahly are reportedly in talks to secure the services of a former Real Madrid star as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

According to Marca, Mariano Díaz, who is currently a free agent, could be set for a fresh start in the Egyptian Premier League following a difficult spell at Sevilla.

The 31-year-old joined the Andalusian outfit in 2023 after leaving Real but struggled for game time, managing just over 300 minutes on the pitch.

His contract came to an end in July, leaving him on the lookout for a new challenge.

Mariano, a product of Los Blancos' youth academy, enjoyed a standout 2017/18 season with Olympique Lyon, where he netted 18 goals in Ligue 1.

His form in France saw Los Blancos exercise a buy-back clause to bring him back to the Santiago Bernabéu, where he remained until 2023.

Despite boasting two UEFA Champions League titles from his time with Real, the forward has struggled to hit any notable heights in recent years.

With Al Ahly drawn in Group A of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup alongside Brazilian giants SE Palmeiras, Portugal's FC Porto, and Lionel Messi's Inter Miami, the Red Devils are said to be eager to strengthen their attacking options.

With the forward's experience at some of the biggest clubs in Europe, his potential arrival could prove to be a massive boost for the 11-time CAF Champions League winners as they aim to challenge for silverware domestically, continentally as well as internationally.
