Ruthless Liverpool hit Spurs for six

Liverpool moved four points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a 6-3 thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening.

Curtis Jones made way for Alexis Mac Allister as the Reds' only change from the draw with Fulham last weekend, while Spurs restored Pedro Porro and Yves Bissouma.

Spurs were caught square minutes in and nearly went behind when Mohamed Salah brought Luis Diaz' pass in his stride to get a shot in, but battered the upright.

However, the Reds seized control just past the midway quarter after Diaz showed strong aerial prowess in the box to head in Trent Alexander-Arnold's delivery.

Argentine Mac Allister added another ten minutes to halftime after making the most of a loose ball in the centre of the area and bulged the net.

Spurs refused to drop heads and reduced the arrears when James Maddison took Dejan Kulusevski's layoff in his stride and drilled in the bottom-corner.

Liverpool restored the two-goal cushion on the stroke of halftime as Salah showed unselfishness on the break to set-up Szoboszlai for a calm point-blank finish.

The lack of conviction from Spurs continued in the second half, as the Reds bagged a fourth goal when a flowing move led to a goal-mouth scramble and invited Salah to convert from close range.

Salah went on the double towards the closing quarter after a cleverly worked pass from Szoboszlai granted the Egyptian space to come in the area and tap in.

Given the dominance, Liverpool made a double change in Mac Allister for Jones and Diogo Jota ahead of the flying winger Coady Gakpo.

The host got a second goal on the board inside the final minutes when Kulusevski charged in the box and volleyed in Dominic Solanke's chipped pass.

Solanke proved key once more with eight minutes to play and volleyed in from close-range following a delivery across the face of the area by Brennan Johnson.

However, Liverpool's offensive strong-hold continued as they grabbed a sixth goal in the closing five minutes after Diaz finished off Salah's lay-off to round off a big win.

Confirmed line-ups:

Tottenham Hotspur: Forster, Pedro Porro, Dragusin, Gray, Spence, Sarr, Bissouma, Maddison, Kulusevksi, Solanke, Son

Liverpool: Alisson, Trent, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Diaz, Gakpo, Salah
