'Keeping them in Chiefs' DDC doesn’t make sense'

Former Kaizer Chiefs development coach Farouk Khan opposes the idea of keeping Naledi Hlongwane and Aden McCarthy in the DStv Diski Challenge.

The two youngsters performed exceptionally well while playing for the Carling All. Stars, who defeated the Carling Knockout champions, Magesi FC, on Saturday in Orlando.

Khan has cautioned against pressuring coach Nasredine Nabi to promote every player from the DDC, suggesting that a better option would be to put the players on loan instead.

"I believe the coach has his own preferred choice of players. It seems that Chiefs will be offloading many players," Khan told KickOff.

"But ultimately, the coach has the final say on the type of players he wants. Chiefs have a wealth of talented youngsters due to their strong scouting network.

"I'm sure every coach would like to have their best young players in the first team. Nabi is focused on winning, so he won't overlook talented players like Jabu Pule, Isaac Mabotsa, or Nhlanhla Kubeka from the junior ranks.

"When I was at Chiefs, Muhsin Ertugral was compelled to utilize players who had proven themselves. Nabi is a very experienced coach; if he sees quality, he will not leave them behind," Khan explained.

"However, it's important to ensure that players are adequately prepared. Talent alone is not enough; there's also the need for mental strength, adaptability, and handling pressure. Wearing that jersey carries significant weight.

"I used to explain this to players when Muhsin brought me in to work with the first team. Hlongwane is undoubtedly a talented player, but the coach knows him first hand. The same applies to Fabian McCarthy's son.

"Are they ready to play in the first team? I believe only the coach and the technical staff can answer that question. The club might consider taking a page from Sundowns' book and loaning out these players. If they perform well elsewhere, they can be brought back. Keeping them in the DDC doesn't make sense to me."
