New Downs coach gives Broos fresh headache?

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has been handed a fresh headache by Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso, following a suggestion by Kermit Erasmus.

Previous Sundowns coaches such as Rulani Mokwena and Manqoba Mngqithi have had niggling issues with Broos, regarding the management of Masandawana players.

The Belgian recently found himself with a big decision to make after he selected and played Teboho Mokoena and Khuliso Mudau while they were sidelined at Sundowns.

Another headache has now emerged, after Cardoso switched Aubrey Modiba from a left wing back, to midfield, since he took over from Mngqithi.

According to Erasmus, who knows the Sundowns group intimately, the Portuguese tactician is getting the best out of Modiba and 'Postman' should no longer be regarded as a left-back.

"For me we have to cancel the fact that Modiba is known as a left-back, because he's better as a midfielder now, let's not confuse people, he's no more a left-back," Erasmus said on SoccerBeat YouTube Channel.

"And I'm sure he will tell you the same thing, he doesn't want to play there, he wants to play inside in midfield, where he can dictate things, where he can make things happen.

"Because what he brings and the way he reads the game is so smart and I think it just shows you that sometimes, where you're utilized, might not be to your full potential. Because as a left-back, you didn't much of his ability that much and now that they've changed him, give him the freedom. He's got the ability to play the dink pass over the last line, the ability to switch the play and the ability to link up play from midfield to attack," the former Sundowns and Orlando Pirates striker added.

Would Modiba be competing for a place in the Bafana midfield or would Broos still regard him as a left-back?

Terrence Mashego, who was the understudy of the former SuperSport United utility player has also been featuring at left-back for Masandawana, behind Divine Lunga, who appears to be the first choice at left-back under Cardoso.
