Benni 'reacts' to Amad's new Man Utd deal

It is understood that negotiations between the club and the player's representatives have been ongoing for several months, although it is believed that it has always been the 22-year-old's intention to stay at the Theatre of Dreams.

Diallo has arguably been United's best player this season, as he has already contributed six goals and seven assists in all competitions so far, according to Transfermarkt.

McCarthy, meanwhile, worked with the winger during his two years at United, and the South African has now reacted to Diallo committing his future to the Red Devils.

In a message to Diallo on Instagram, McCarthy wrote: "A very big congratulations my brother. You earned your new contract, and I'm so happy and proud of you.

"Continue the brilliant work you [are] doing."

In the statement on United's official website, Diallo thanked all the coaches he has worked with in Manchester, including McCarthy. He said: "I have learnt so much since arriving here four years ago; I am very grateful to the coaches and staff who have helped me to develop, and to the fans for driving me forward every day.

"It has been a difficult season for everyone, but I fully believe that we are on the right path and the future is going to be really special. I am ready to give everything to help the team and make our supporters proud again."
