Last week, the Portuguese manager was said to have already agreed to a four-year deal with the Lions of Carthage, and official confirmation was believed to be imminent.
However, it is now reported that the deal will no longer go ahead.
According to WinWin.com, Tunisia have backtracked on appointing Queiroz due to the cost of his contract, which is said to be in excess of €14 million per year.
It is claimed that the deal would have made him the most expensive coach in the history of the Tunisian national team.
Moreover, the report indicates that after the settlement committee agreed on a deal with the former Bafana Bafana boss, they approached the Tunisian Ministry of Youth and Sports to finance the appointment.
However, the ministry decided against the move, deeming it too costly.
It is also reported that Queiroz would need to reduce his salary expectations for Tunisia to reconsider hiring him.
Furthermore, the Tunisian football federation has reportedly decided to postpone the appointment of a new head coach until after their elections on 25 January.
Queiroz, meanwhile, has been without a job since parting ways with the Qatar national team in December 2023, according to Transfermarkt.
