OFFICIAL: Rulani lands former European-based star

Rulani Mokwena's Wydad Athletic Club have officially announced the signing of a former European-based star.

The Moroccan outfit have secured the services of Moroccan defender Fahd Moufi as their first acquisition in the current winter transfer window.

Reports suggest that Moufi, who recently left Croatian outfit Hajduk Split, successfully underwent his medical examination on Sunday.

The 27-year-old has signed with Mokoena's side as a free agent in a deal that is understood to see him stay at the club for a season and a half following the expiry of his contract in Croatia.

The right-back was spotted in the VIP stands at the Al-Arabi Al-Zawali Stadium in Casablanca on Sunday where he watched on as Wydad secured a 2-1 victory over Ittihad Touarga, a result that boosts their hopes of climbing the league table.

This follows their ambitious recruitment drive last year, which saw the club bring in 23 new players at the start of the season.

Currently sitting fifth on the Botola Pro 1 table with 30 points after 18 matches, the Red Castle are nine points behind league leaders RSB Berkane.

They trail second-placed RCA Zemamra by four points and MAS Fes in third by one, while being level with FAR Rabat in fourth, who have a game in hand. The side are pushing to secure a top-four finish and, with it, a spot in continental football next season.

Beyond the former Portimonense star's signing, the Red Castle are believed to be in discussions to add more talent to their squad, targeting several Moroccan and African players during the January window.
