Mammila: I'm waiting for my turn

Former Baroka FC head coach Morgan Mammila recently spoke to KickOff about his future coaching plans after having gone under the radar in recent months.

Mammila is currently at home in Limpopo, where he is spending time with his parents while recharging his batteries.

He stated that when he returns to coaching, he intends to focus on mid-table teams rather than seek opportunities in positions for which he feels unprepared.

"I'm currently at home in Limpopo, taking care of my parents. I haven't spent time with them in a long time," Mammila shared with KickOff.

"I'm watching football every day. In our profession, sometimes it comes down to luck; I need that luck to make my comeback. Right now, it's other people's turn, and I'm cheering them on, preparing myself to return ready.

"The coaching merry-go-round is just part of the game. This is a results-driven business, and every chairman wants their team to succeed. If you are achieving results, as Phuti Mohafe is at Polokwane City, that allows the chairman to focus on his other businesses while Phuti concentrates on the team."

Mammila, who transitioned from football administration to coaching, has no regrets about his career change.

"Looking at what I've accomplished in such a short time, I can proudly say that coaching is working for me," he continued.

"You wouldn't know about Stanley Nwabali if it weren't for me. I was the one who sent Nwabali to the Nigerian national team, and now he's regarded as the best goalkeeper in Nigeria. It wouldn't have happened so quickly without my support.

"I helped Thabiso Sesane move from Chippa to Pirates, Zuko Mdunyelwa from Chippa to Sundowns, and took Goodman Mosele from obscurity to the national team, though he got injured.

"My plan is to double my achievements when I get another chance with a PSL team.

"I'm still young for the big three though; those clubs are typically for coaches who are more older. Once you're there, it means you've reached the ceiling. I am not yet ready for that.

"Right now, I'm observing from the sidelines, waiting for that call. Give me eight years, and I will be ready to coach one of the big three."
