CONFIRMED: CWC trophy headed to South Africa

FIFA has officially confirmed the 2025 Club World Cup Trophy Tour, with South Africa slated to be one of the stops due to Mamelodi Sundowns' participation in the tournament.

Anticipation for the expanded 32-team Club World Cup is beginning to grow, as the competition is now just five months away.

Due to the increase in the number of participating clubs, Africa has four representatives in the tournament, namely Sundowns, Wydad Athletic Club, Al Ahly, and Esperance de Tunis.

FIFA has now confirmed that the dazzling new trophy will travel around the world to all the countries that have representative clubs before it makes its way back to the host nation, the United States of America.

"Over 140 days in 29 cities across 20 countries, this will be an epic journey for the trophy and a tournament that is breaking new ground and redefining global club football – and we've sent it off in style," said FIFA President Gianni Infantino, according to the organisation's official website.

"The FIFA Club World Cup Trophy Tour will give players, coaches, and fans from all over the world the chance to see the most coveted prize in global club football live, taking their passion to the world and uniting them in their excitement and the dream of becoming the first winners of the new FIFA Club World Cup."

Spanish giants Atletico Madrid confirmed that the trophy was presented at their stadium on Wednesday and that it will be shown in other parts of Madrid on Thursday.

It is yet to be confirmed when exactly the trophy will make its way to South Africa, and it is also unknown which part of Gauteng will host the event, although it is possibly going to Downs' hometown, Pretoria.
