Pirates to bide their time with Matuludi?

Following the injury suffered by Polokwane City wingback Thabang Matuludi, KickOff brings you the latest on his transfer situation, after interest from both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

Matuludi attracted interest from within the PSL and overseas after a stellar 2023/24 season and was expected to make a big move ahead of the current campaign.

He was rumoured to be on the target list of Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi, even before he was officially announced, alongside his teammate Oswin Appollis.

After the 26-year-old star remained in Limpopo, he continued to impress on the right flank, with Orlando Pirates reported to be bidding for his services during the course of 2024/25.

However, Matuludi suffered an injury blow in a 1-0 win over SuperSport United prior to their Nedbank Cup Last 32 clash against The Bees on Sunday.

Information that has reached this publication is that the defender has a torn knee ligaments injury and is expected to be out for three months.

This has effectively ruled out any possibility of Matuludi being transferred with less than 10 hours left before the PSL registration window closes.

It is understood, however, that the adventurous wingback was unlikely to make a move in this window, even if he was not injured.

"As I've told you, Matuludi was not going to leave in this transfer window. The chairman (Johnny Mogaladi) did not want to sell this season," a reliable source at City informed KickOff.com

"But I can tell you, yes, that Pirates did submit an official offer for Matuludi. But with Chiefs, he was just on their target list and they have not submitted any official offer to Polokwane.

"However, the timing of the injury is bad because the boy had interest from overseas clubs and he will need time to get going again," continued the insider.

Rise and Shine progressed to the Nedbank Cup round of 16 after edging lower league side The Bees 1-0, without also the injured Tlou Nkwe and Appollis, who was an unused substitute.
