'Nabi is getting his team selections wrong'

A former Kaizer Chiefs centre-back believes the team that played in the Soweto Derby on Saturday had the potential to easily defeat AmaZulu FC.

Chiefs once again failed to secure maximum points, despite dominating Tuesday's Betway Premiership clash against AmaZulu.

The KwaZulu-Natal-based side could be considered lucky to have escaped with a point, as they had to withstand their opponents' 18 attempts at goal.

"There were two teams: the one that played on Saturday and the one that played on Tuesday against AmaZulu," Johannes 'Bricks' Mudau said, in a debrief with KickOff.com.

"Nabi is getting his team selections wrong. Saturday's team performed better than Tuesday's.

"Some players at Chiefs need to pull up their socks. When one player passes the ball, the others need to be moving and creating space.

"Although this team is much better than the Kaizer Chiefs we saw last season, I'm still not satisfied. They need to get their act together.

"It's unfortunate that the culture of Kaizer Chiefs is no longer present. In our time, wearing that jersey had a certain meaning," he went on.

Furthermore, Mudau says players who understood the club's culture were released without first introducing that culture to the new players.

"Winning should be the standard at Kaizer Chiefs. You have to consistently stay on top of your game. That culture is missing now.

"A coach is only as good as the number of games he wins. Players need to remember that this is a big brand. It's the players who make the coach look good, and it's the players who can also bring a coach down.

"In a game situation, the coach contributes only 10%, while the remaining 90% must come from the players. Some players are suited for certain teams, while others simply aren't 'Kaizer Chiefs material'."
