Zwane speaks out on his Sundowns ‘situation’

With Themba Zwane having just recently reached 14 years under contract at Mamelodi Sundowns, he has provided the ingredients of his longevity at the club.

Zwane joined Sundowns in January 2011 from amateur club Vardos and, besides a season-long loan at Mpumalanga Black Aces, has held it firm at Chloorkop.

Since his return from that loan (2013/14), he has won trophies every season for 10 years with his contribution in capital letters.

Throughout the last decade, his appearance numbers have been 41, 36, 42, 34, 41, 39, 40, 38, 39, and 29 (2014/15 season).

This explains why he understands the requirements of staying relevant at the Tshwane giants, where he has missed 22 matches since rupturing his Achilles tendon while on Bafana Bafana duty.

"Obviously, it is difficult, but it goes with the belief and believing in yourself," says Zwane of the latest chapter in his career.

"But I have been in this situation since I came back to Sundowns from Aces as I have been fighting for my position.

"I know for sure that it is not easy here.

"We have a lot of quality players, but the difference is your mindset.

"If you believe and you are strong here (in the head), then you will do it, and I think I have got those," says Zwane, who is now back on the grass.

"It was difficult at first, but obviously with the support of my team and family, I had to push myself.

"I'm happy that I'm now running outside and feeling no pain.

"It is just that it (Achilles tendon) is tight at the moment, but overall, I think so far, so good," he notes.
