Cele: It has been my dream since I was a small child

Newly-signed Kaizer Chiefs star Thabo Cele has spoken out about his massive target now that he is back in South Africa and has had a feel of the grass in domestic games.

Chiefs announced the signing of Cele towards the end of January, with the 26-year-old slotted into his surroundings like a glove in hand.

The midfielder, who has already made three appearances since his arrival, brings experience to the side, and in addition to helping them compete for top four positions, has even bigger goals.

The KwaMashu-born star was part of South Africa's COSAFA Cup team in 2023 and represented the country at the 2020 Olympics.

"It is always a dream for a young footballer to represent the national team at any level, through the age groups and ultimately to play for the country at a World Cup," Cele told Amakhosi's official website.

"My process started when I went to Portugal. I got my first call-up to the national U-20s. I did quite well. I was then fortunate enough to be selected to play for the U-23s in Olympic Games in 2020, and although we didn't win, I played quite well.

"That led me to play for the senior team in COSAFA and gained great experience. It was a huge honour. Now, my ambition is to be part of the national squad, as Bafana Bafana are making good progress and I want to be a part of that. It has been my dream since I was a small child

If first impressions are anything to go by, Cele the midfield dynamite is well on course to realizing that ambition.

He has another opportunity to display his talent when the Glamour Boys take on Chippa United in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
