Chiefs brush Chippa aside in Nedbank Cup

Kaizer Chiefs registered a 3-0 win over Chippa United to secure their spot in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals on Saturday evening.

The Soweto giants named two changes from the win over Stellenbosch, as Happy Mashiane came in for the departed Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Samkelo Zwane replaced Yusuf Maart, who missed out through suspension.

Chiefs hit the front 12 minutes after the start when Gaston Sirino latched onto Reeve Frosler's cross from the right-side and powered into the top corner.

Tashreeq Morris should've extended the lead near the half-hour mark from a low shot in the box, but Stanley Nwabali made a comfortable save.

Morris fancied goal again from a first-time layoff into the wide channels by Sirino, but Nwabali made another remarkable save.

Chippa very nearly went to the break level through Giovanni Philander's first-time shot from the edge of the area, but Bruce Bvuma parried acrobatically.

The Chilli Boys made a substitution at the resumption in the way of veteran midfielder Andile Jali ahead of Craig Martin.

Chippa looked to come in their own and put the host in a spot of bother courtesy of a snap effort from a decent position by Ayabulela Konqobe.

Pule Mmodi almost doubled the lead for Chiefs with a curling shot from a tight angle as the Chilli Boys conceded possession, but Nwabali parried him.

With ten minutes to go, Mduduzi Shabalala won a penalty from a foul by Nwabali, which allowed Inacio Miguel to step up and double the lead from 12 yards out.

Mmodi got on the score-sheet in the final minute when he nudged in a rebound from Nwabali following Ranga Chivaviro's shot, sealing Chiefs' spot in the last eight.
