Coach arrested for alleged referee assault!

A coach has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a referee, with a player also facing disciplinary action after his actions were caught on camera.

Elmina Sharks' General Manager, Kelvin Aboagye, has been taken into police custody following allegations of assaulting a referee during a Division One League clash against Swedru All Blacks.

The shocking incident took place in Ghana on 16 February 2025 at the Nduom Sports Stadium in Elmina, Central Region, moments after the final whistle.

According to police reports per GhanaSoccer.net, Aboagye, along with other individuals, is accused of attacking the match official and several supporters in a heated confrontation.

Authorities are understood to currently be investigating the matter, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend others involved in the altercation.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has swiftly acted by charging Elmina Sharks with misconduct, while it has also been said that player Jay Asamoah is set to face disciplinary action after a viral video showed him punching referee Eso Doh Morrison. 

It has been suggested that the player could receive a sever punishment for his actions. 

The GFA recently released a press statement, in which it revealed that it will be collaborating with the Ghana Police Service o start the processes of developing a new Sport Safety and Security training Modules as part of training of new police recruits in the area of Sports Policing.

The statement added that the Ghana Police Service shall immediately introduce sports policing as part of the curricular for the training of new Police recruits.
