Rulani achieves massive feat to break four-year Wydad duck

Under the guidance of manager Rulani Mokwena, Wydad Athletic Club managed to record a feat they have been unable to achieve in four seasons.

Wydad Athletic Club continued their fine run of form with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Chabab Mohammedia at the Al-Basheer Stadium on Sunday.

Cassius Mailula opened the scoring in the 33rd minute before Mohamed Al-Raihi doubled the lead early in the second half.

An own goal from Walid Sani extended Wydad's advantage, while late strikes from Samuel Obeng and Mikael Malsa sealed an emphatic win.

The result marked a significant milestone for the Red Castle, as they secured five consecutive league victories for the first time in four years, according to Le360 Sport

The last time the Casablanca giants achieved such a run was during the 2020/21 season under Tunisian coach Faouzi Benzarti, when they defeated Nahdat Berkane, Moghreb Tetouan, Raja Casablanca, Swift Oued Zem, and Mouloudia Oujda in succession.

The victory came despite the South African tactician being absent due to personal commitments, as he returned to his home country to pay his respects to his recently departed grandmother.

Mokwena's men have now climbed to second place on the league table with 39 points, as their fight to secure a spot in a CAF competition next season continues.

The side are two points clear of AS FAR in third and RC Zemamra in fourth, with both teams suffering defeat over the weekend. Wydad are, however, a fair way off league-leaders RS Berkane, who have a 13-point lead at the top of the table.
