8 Downs players under restrictions prior to Chiefs

Mamelodi Sundowns' disciplinary record has continued to rise, with a number of players in danger of missing the big clash against Kaizer Chiefs next weekend.

Sundowns saw an eighth player being sent off this season in their 2-0 win over Mpheni Home Defenders, after Tashreeq Matthews had an early shower, with virtually the whole of the second half still to play.

The increasing number of their players serving suspensions has raised eyebrows over the discipline of Miguel Cardoso's charges.

Masandawana currently have eight players sitting on three yellow cards, which could see a few of them miss the game against Chiefs.

Even though Matthews will return for a Betway Premiership encounter against Amakhosi, a number of his teammates are flirting with the 'sin bin' for that match against Amakhosi, which will come just after the defending champions entertain Marumo Gallants on Wednesday and TS Galaxy again this Saturday.

Aubrey Modiba and Bathusi Aubaas are already repeat offenders at the club, after being red-carded in the CAF Champions League and Nedbank Cup respectively.

Aubaas, in particular, has just returned from a two-game ban in the PSL but carries three yellow cards and could prefer being booked against Gallants so he can miss the game against The Rockets rather than get a caution against the Mpumalanga side, which will rule him out against Chiefs.

Modiba is also on a tightrope of three yellow cards and will have to tread carefully, with two matches before the visit of the Soweto giants.

Kegan Johannes only has two starts in six appearances for Sundowns in the domestic scene but already has three yellow cards and is one game away from being suspended.

Other key players one caution away from suspension, with a game against Chiefs looming, include Marcelo Allende, Asekho Tiwani, Grant Kekana, Sphelele Mkhulise and the injured Mothobi Mvala.
