African star helps Man City seal FA Cup semi spot

Manchester City progressed to the semi-finals of the FA Cup after defeating AFC Bournemouth 2-1 at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday evening.

Ederson was able to recover from an abdomen injury to take place between the sticks for City, while Kevin de Bruyne and Phil Foden came into the attack.

The visitors were awarded a penalty after 12 minutes when Tyler Adams was deemed to have handled the ball in the box. Erling Haaland took responsibility but was unable to profit as goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga went the right way to make the save.

Bournemouth made their opponents pay after 21 minutes when Brazilian striker Evanlison fired home from close range after some good work by David Brooks and Patrick Kluivert in the build-up.

The Cityzens pushed to get themselves back on level terms in the remaining stages of the first half but they were unable to find the a clear-cut opening as they went into the interval trailing.

Four minutes into the second half, the away side were able to restore parity as Haaland made up for his earlier his misses by turning home Nico O'Reilly's cross at the far post.

Haaland's evening came to an end on the hour mark after picking an injury, but his replacement Omar Marmoush made the perfect impact four minutes after coming on by firing past Kepa to put City in the lead.

The Cherries were unable to get themselves back on level terms in the closing stages as City held on for the win to set up a semi-final against Nottingham Forest at Wembley Stadium.
