1995-2025: Pirates can win this Champions League this year

Orlando Pirates' standing as the only unbeaten club in the CAF Champions League this season has been pointed out as being 'a dangerous team set out for glory'.

Pirates remain the only club yet to suffer defeat this season in the Champions League with all the other seven quarterfinalists having lost at least once.

The Buccaneers have won eight and drawn three in this competition and after grinding their way to a laborious 1-0 win in Algiers, the continent has taken notice of the 1995 kings.

"I think it is important to respect Pirates for what they are doing now," Algerian scout Abdelmadjid Herroug tells KickOff.com after having been at the Stade du 5 Juillet last night.

"They have now come twice to Algiers and won against CRB and MC Alger.

"They went to Cairo and beat Al Ahly.

"Just look at what they have done in the Champions League this season.

"No team has been able to beat them, so if you think they are not serious contenders, then I don't know.

"Based on what I have seen of them and what they have done this season in this competition, Pirates can win this Champions League.

"They have a good team, and their coach (Jose Riveiro) is getting all the tactics right.

"I'm not surprised they have put themselves in this good position to get into the semi-finals and go through to the final as well.

"They know how to handle all types of games in the Champions League and Tuesday night was further proof to that.

"Such teams are dangerous because they don't break, so I think they will be singing in glory," says Herroug.
