Should Chiefs let Nabi go?

The heat is on for Nasreddine Nabi, but a former Kaizer Chiefs player has taken to pointing the index finger for the side's poor performances at management.

In response to this week's poll run by KickOff.com asking whether Chiefs should let Nabi go, 43% of the respondents have answered in the affirmative, while 33% say not yet. A further 24% believe no coach will succeed with the squad at the disposal of the Tunisian-Belgian.

At the time of writing, 09:00 on Thursday, a total of 563 votes had been cast.

Patrick Mayo, the erstwhile utility man for the Soweto giants, says the club has failed to secure several players that the head coach had identified at the beginning of the season. Among those are Fiston Mayele, Oswin Appollis, Michael Olunga, Asanele Velebayi, Elias Mokwana, Khanyisa Mayo, Fawaaz Basadien, and Stanley Nwabali.

Mayo contends that sacking Nabi will not resolve the issues facing Amakhosi, who are gradually becoming a mid-table team.

"Nabi inherited the current situation at Chiefs and has not been given a blank cheque to purchase the players he wants," detailed the Umhlobo Wenene FM football analyst.

"He should be allowed to acquire his preferred players. Most of the current squad members were already at the club when he arrived, and he hasn't been given enough time to make any significant changes.

"It's the players already at Chiefs who are underperforming, not Nabi. To be honest, he hasn't failed the team. He is simply working with the same players he found when he took over.

"He needs a chance to buy the players he desires. He has tried to recommend certain players, but they were not signed for various reasons, possibly financial. There are many good players he wanted but couldn't bring in due to budget constraints.

"Therefore, he deserves an opportunity to implement his vision."
