Pirates' big 'push', Chiefs own goal stumble, Amajimbos seal WC dream!

In this edition of Weekend Wrap, we look at the controversial circumstances of Orlando Pirates' goal against Polokwane City, Kaizer Chiefs' fading top-four hopes and South Africa's U17s sealing a spot to the U17 FIFA World Cup.

Bucs close in on Downs

Pirates kept the title race alive with a 1-0 win over Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday. A Nkosinathi Sibisi goal settled the tie in what was a difficult game for the visitors.

However, question marks have remained about whether the goal should have stood after the centre-back appeared to have fouled goalkeeper Brian Bwire, who had fumbled the ball, before netting.

Rise and Shine head coach Phuti Mohafe also insinuated in his post-match TV interview that there was a foul on another of his charges prior to that, during the same sequence as Kabelo Dlamini delivered a telling set-piece.

The Soweto giants are now 12 points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with three matches in hand. Their tactician, Jose Riveiro, said his side will try 'until the last day'.

Frustrated Nabi at his wits' end

Chiefs missed another chance to climb up the Betway Premiership table as they settled for a 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy at New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Wandile Duba's opener was cancelled out by Given Msimango's own goal with 10 minutes left on the clock.

This was the fourth consecutive occasion in which the side failed to collect three points, with two defeats and two losses during that period.

A visibly disappointed Nasreddine Nabi went straight down the tunnel at full-time and further hinted, in his post-match TV interview, that patience with his squad could be running thin.

"The opportunities that we got were due to our pressing, our timing, because it is something that we worked on, the defending of the opponents," Nabi said on SuperSport TV.

"But I'm tired of repeating myself every day about the opportunities that we are missing, and we feel that we should have been able to score more than one goal, but we gave Galaxy the chance to stay alive."

Amajimbos to the World Cup!

South Africa's U17s have secured a ticket to the U17 FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar later this year.

This is despite a 2-0 defeat to Burkina Faso in their last Africa Cup of Nations Group B fixture at the Stade Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca on Sunday.

The continental showpiece is currently underway in Morocco, where Mzansi's lads are also through to the quarterfinals.

"I want to thank each and every South African who rallied behind us. This is a great moment and a big achievement. I think initially, I made it clear that more than anything, I want to qualify for the World Cup," head coach Vela Khumalo told SAFA media after the match.

Tinkler back to haunt Citizens

It does not rain but pour for Cape Town City, who were on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline against Sekhukhune United at DHL Stadium on Sunday.

Despite enjoying 60% of the ball possession overall, they went into half-time trailing by two goals after Samkele Sihlali and Chibuike Ohizu found the back of the net for the visitors.

Kayden Francis reduced the deficit in the 67th minute, but Diogo Peral's men could not find an equaliser, and the result condemns them to 14th on the standings with 24 points after 25 matches.

Of note is that Eric Tinkler, who was until recently at the helm of the side, came back to haunt the Citizens who are having a season to forget.
