Billiat breaks silence over new move

New signing Khama Billiat has shed some light into his decision to join Zimbabwean Premier League side Yadah and perhaps hinted at reasons behind his exit at former club Kaizer Chiefs.

On 8 July 2023, Chiefs rocked the football community when a statement released by the club claimed that the mercurial striker had gone AWOL.

Billiat, at his own accord, had ended a five-year stay at Kaizer Chiefs that had been hampered by injuries and yielded 24 goals and 29 assists in 126 appearances.

Still, for many Chiefs supporters, there was a general feeling that Billiat's experience could be useful in a new-look Chiefs side.

What followed would be months of ifs, buts and maybes, as several clubs including Cape Town City and SuperSport United were liked with the Zimbabwean.

Ultimately, Billiat chose a return to his homeland.

Speaking at the unveiling at his club, the attacker admitted that he had been 'home sick,' and alluded to perhaps a lack of 'love' from his previous environment.

"I have been home sick for some time and being here means so much love," Billiat was quoted by Soccer24 Zimbabwe.

"I really appreciate it and I'm going to enjoy it. Thank you for showing me so much love.

"I thank God that I still had the chance to play in Zimbabwe and I'm looking forward to just enjoying every minute of it.

"I don't think I have ever felt like this before. The love that I'm getting, is simply amazing, overwhelming and it's a great feeling. I can't wait for the games to begin," he added.

"Yadah is a special team. I am happy to be here.

"This is the only place I have been coming to in Zimbabwe over the years, it's like home to me. They have sacrificed a lot for me to be here and I appreciate it.

"They (Yadah) sacrificed a lot for me, love starts by sacrifice. Their love was amazing and I couldn't think of going anywhere else.

"This is amazing. I am hoping to enjoy it, I love my country so much. So, I am ready to give out my best."

Billiat is in line to make his competitive debut when Yadah take on Hwange on Saturday, 9 March in their Zimbabwe PSL opener.
