Billiat’s massive PSL loss after ‘miracle move’

Khama Billiat has returned home to Zimbabwe having missed out on a huge achievement playing for a South African club.

Billiat has agreed to terms with Harare based club Yadah FC after they dangled the best offer after having flown him from his base in Johannesburg.

The deal to join the club nicknamed, The Miracle Boys, will make Billiat the best paid player in the Zimbabwean league by a country mile with a salary of USD5000 (approx. R94 000).

He has also received USD20 000 (approx. R378 000) which has been paid upfront in cash.

Billiat was amongst the top earners in the PSL while at Chiefs his annual package standing over at a gross of R8 million (including signing on fees).

Moving back home has come with a drop in earnings.

While Yadah don't have the big profile of Dynamos and CAPS United – who were also keen on him, they have provided him with the best package and have been helped by that they are based in the capital city.

With the move back home where he will continue as a super star, Billiat has unfortunately put brakes on his chase for 100 goals playing for a DStv Premiership club.

Billiat has 97 goals to his name in the colours of the three clubs that he has played for in South Africa – Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Chiefs.

The slippery forward needed another three to join Siyabonga Nomvethe, Daniel Mudau, Mabhuti Khenyeza, Manuel 'Tico-Tico' Bucuane, Collins Mbesuma, Bradley Grobler, and Peter Shalulile as the only players to ever reach triple figures while attached to a South African top league club.

Last season (2022/23) was the first time that Billiat completed without a goal to his name through the 13 years that he played in South Africa.

Billiat last scored in April 2022 in the 2-1 defeat to Golden Arrows and his last proper minutes came in October 2022 against Orlando Pirates.
