BREAKING: Official nominees for PSL awards unveiled

The Premier Soccer League has announced the nominees for the upcoming PSL end-of-season awards, with Orlando Pirates, Stellenbosch FC and Mamelodi Sundowns dominating several categories.

Awards across 14 categories are set to be handed out to the respective outstanding achievers of the 2023/24 season.

On Friday, the PSL revealed the official list of nominees, as follows:

Having successfully defended their MTN8 title, it is unsurprising that Orlando Pirates dominate the MTN8 Last Man Standing category. Sipho Chaine, Zakhele Lepasa and Patrick Maswanganyi are the nominees.

Stellenbosch completed a fairy-tale run to win the Carling Knockout and it is unsurprising that the Iqraam Rayners, Devin Titus and Thabo Moloisane are the three nominees for the Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament.

Pirates once again dominate the nominations for the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament gong, with the defending champions getting two nominations, in Maswanganyi and Tshegofatso Mabasa. Stellies' Rayners is the third nominee.

Three young exciting young players who showed their talent in cup competition football will battle it out for the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player of the Tournament.

Sundowns' Ronwen Williams, Stellenbosch's Sage Stephens and Sekhukhune United's Badra Ali Sangare are the three final candidates for the DStv Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season award.

Rock solid at the back. Orlando Pirates' Tapelo Xoki, Grant Kekana of Sundowns and Stellies' Deano Van Rooyen make up the final three nominees for the Defender of the Season accolade.

Richards Bay FC's Sanele Barns, Devin Titus from Stellenbosch and Buccaneers fan-favourite Maswanganyi are the final three nominations for the DStv Premiership Midfielder of the Season honour.

The DStv Premirship's list of the most exciting young players comes down to a final three of Pirates' Relebohile Mofokeng and the SuperSport United duo Ime Okon and Shandre Campbell.

Williams, Rayners and Maswanganyi are the final three nominees for the DStv Premiership Players' Player of the Season award.

Meanwhile, Rulani Mokwena, Steve Barker and Jose Riveiro are the final three nominees for the league's Coach of the Season award.

The Footballer of the Season award comes in with a bit of a twist as last season's winner Teboho Mokoena makes the final three alongside Ronwen Williams and Iqraam Rayners, leaving no room for Patrick Maswanganyi.

With the spotlight shinning heavily on match officials this season, Sikhumbuzo Gasa, Abongile Tom, and Philangenkosi Khumalo did well enough to each earn a nomination for the referee of the season.

Ntando Nkosi, Langelihle Phili and Jody Ah Shene gave spectators a glimpse into the future and earned nominations for the DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season.
