Cele cuts short Vietnam trials

The 26-year-old former junior international was forced to cut short his trial and return home earlier than planned because his child took ill.

Even though he found it challenging to adapt to the language, food and cultural differences, Cele tells Kick Off that he will go back if his agent finds a club for him.

"The timing and my problems at home made it mission impossible for me to stay there longer. The agent and the club told me that they could not give me an answer after one week. Their pre-season is going to start now with lots of friendly Cup competitions, and that is where I should have been playing," says Cele, who is back home in Pietermaritzburg.

The playmaker is a free agent after AmaZulu released him during the transfer window period at the start of the season. That allows him to sign with a local club at any time, but Cele will not rush into anything.

"I had a few calls from clubs, but before I decide anything I want to see if the agent in Vietnam has anything for me."

Should Cele eventually return to Vietnam and join a club he won't be short of company. His former Orlando Pirates' team-mate, attacking midfielder Philani Kubheka, last season won the league title with Binh Duong FC.

Another former Buccaneer, Democratic Republic of Congo striker Kabanga Tshamala, earned a runners-up medal there with Dong Tam Long An FC.
