FIFA chief: We respect Danny Jordaan's leadership

An Executive Member of both CAF and FIFA was full of praise for SAFA president Danny Jordaan during a visit to South Africa.

Isha Johansen paid a courtesy visit to the South African Football Association's (SAFA) headquarters on Wedensday, where she was welcomed by Jordaan and the Association's CEO Lydia Monyepao.

The president made a court appearance last week, alongside SAFA chief of finance Gronie Hluyo and businessman Trevor Neethling and had the three charges of theft levelled against Jordaan and Hluyo withdrawn by the National Prosecuting Authority.

The trio were originally charged with fraud and theft following a raid that had been conducted by the Hawks, and were accused of misusing R1.3 million of the South African footballing body's funds for personal gain.

However, during the former Sierra Leone Football Association President's visit to the country, she highlighted the sterling work Jordaan has done for the development of football on the continent.

"SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan has been an old, long-time friend, of course, through football," Johansen said per SAFA's official website.

"The South African Football Association is a significant federation for all of us when it comes to Africa, not least because, of course, our CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe is from South Africa.

"I think South Africa has paved the way over the years in terms of football development."

"They have done some incredible stuff with women's football development and youth football development," she added.

She went on to commend Jordaan's leadership.

"We respect leadership as well. In President Danny Jordaan there has been leadership. Of course, we all have our problems, and no single FA president will say that it's been a smooth ride. But there's been leadership, there's something to look up to here in this federation."

"This is my first time here and I'm extremely impressed. It's even nicer and greater to see a female Secretary General at SAFA," the CAF chief added.

"It's very nice for us, and we're going places. We spoke about this thing of tokenism, which I will forever be stressing on. Women like us in positions of governance and administration in football, it's very rare to see."
