Chiefs loanee: ‘He was never in our thought process’

Congolese forward Christian Saile Basomboli was never a target for SuperSport United until he was made available, with Tashreeq Morris heading in the opposite direction to Kaizer Chiefs.

This was disclosed by SuperSport coach Gavin Hunt after Basomboli struck one of four goals that sank Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday evening at FNB Stadium.

The 25-year-old was loaned out after only scoring seven goals in two years at Chiefs but already has two in three weeks at SuperSport.

"Christian was never in our thought process," says Hunt.

"He was never in to come here but just got thrown on my laps and it was said: 'Listen, Morris is going, and we are getting Saile', and I said okay'.

"Then it was (about) what am I going to do with him.

"So, I have to try and find what I need to do with him.

"Now, he has two goals, but he needs a lot of work, there are a lot of things we need to (work on with him).

"He is not our player, so I think he goes back.

"We have a culture here and he has to fit in and has to do it without the ball because we don't have the ball as much as Kaizer Chiefs will have it.

"He has to learn to play without the ball and those are things that take time on the training ground, but he can play across the front which gives us a bit of an outlet," says Hunt, adding on the value that Lebohang Maboe has brought.

Maboe is on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.

"Lebo, he is on another level.

"It shows what Sundowns have got if you can bring a player like that and then he can't make that (Sundowns) team," says Hunt.
