JUST IN: Chiefs confirm new technical appointment

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the arrival of former Mamelodi Sundowns scout Thembela 'Tera' Maliwa as Amakhosi's new Head of Scouting and Recruitment.

The new arrival was confirmed on Thursday via the club's website and followed reports of Maliwa ending his nine-year stay at rivals Sundowns.

For Chiefs, the move is a major coup as they look to strengthen their scouting department ahead of the new season. New head coach Nasreddine Nabi has shown to be particular keen on sharpening the finer details since his arrival at Chiefs in July.

Nabi was present at both of Sundowns' quarter-final and semi-final matches against Polokwane City and Stellenbosch.

Meanwhile, the role of head of scout at Chiefs had been unclear since the surprise exit of Sinesipho Mali in August 22 who had been primarily responsible for scouring the country for talent, alongside club legend Ace Khuse.

On his arrival at Chiefs, Maliwa said he was determined to help Chiefs reclaim the glory days.

"We all know what a big, great Club this is. I am really happy to be here," he told the club's website.

"I am here to try to take the Club to another level in terms of scouting and recruitment. My plan is to identify and bring in the players that will take Amakhosi back to the glory days."

Chiefs' sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr added that role is considered a key on for Chiefs.

"The importance of getting recruitment right cannot be overestimated," Motaung Jnr added.

"Identifying and procuring players with the right profile to fit our process is key to success and with Tera onboard, I am very confident that his wealth of knowledge and experience in the field will add value to our organisation and ultimately strengthen the team. We welcome him to Kaizer Chiefs and look forward to working with him."

Amakhosi will begin their 24/25 Betway Premiership season with a clash against Marumo Gallants on 14 September at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.
