Malesela to continue getting a salary from Gallants?

The Footballers Union of South Africa (FUSA) states that, by law, fired coach Dan Malesela is still employed by Marumo Gallants FC.

KickOff understands that Dan Malesela's departure from Marumo Gallants has not yet been finalized.

The Premier Soccer League club recently issued a statement announcing the coach's release; however, his contract with the club runs until the end of the current campaign.

The club has yet to agree to a settlement with the coach, meaning a termination letter has not been signed.

According to FUSA, the club may choose to continue paying Malesela his monthly salary until the end of the season or at least agree on a settlement. It is currently unclear whether the club will proceed with payment.

"By law, Dan Malesela is employed by the club and must be paid," stated FUSA General Secretary Taelo Motloung in an interview with KickOff.

"With coaching staff, the outcome often depends on negotiations with the club's chairman. There are options for settlement. If agreements are not reached, coaches might hire a lawyer or seek assistance from FUSA to ensure they receive all owed compensation.

"You cannot fire or release a coach verbally; a written letter is necessary. If as a coach you are provide with that, a club could claim you were not fired but you simply decided not to come to work.

"Moreover, if a club places a coach on special leave, that must also be documented. This rule might not apply if the coach was working without a contract though.

"If a club does not issue a termination letter, it implies they are willing to pay the coach while he remains at home."
