Mngqithi explains his relationship with Arrows boss

Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi has opened up about the relationship between himself and club boss Mato Madlala.

Mngqithi has returned to Arrows after leaving the club in 2013 to join Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 53-year-old mentor marked his return to the club with a 1-1draw against his former team at the Mpumalanga Stadium on Wednesday.

The home side opened the scoring through defender Keenan Philips in the 31st minute, before Lucas Ribeiro replied for The Brazilians a minute before halftime through a well-taken penalty.

Mngqithi still holds the record of being the only coach to win silverware with Arrows in the Premier Soccer League era and now returns to KwaZulu-Natal with the huge task of helping the side move away from relegation danger.

The former Sundowns tactician is excited about re-uniting with his boss Madlala after taking charge of the club on Monday.

"Sisi Mato understands me, probably more than anybody else. Our relationship is beyond that of a boss and a coach…," said Mngqithi in his first interview since returning.

"Even when I was at Sundowns, I was helping where I could help. So the relationship is not about where you want to go, it's about making this team better.

"She knows she can sleep comfortably wherever she is because she knows I cannot sleep on duty. I like what I am doing. I enjoy my job. I am a full custodian of her club and she knows there is nothing to doubt when I am there because I am going to give my best and my best is generally enough," he added.

Mngqithi has retained both Musa Bilankulu and Kagisho Dikgacoi as part of his technical team.
