In this edition of My First, KickOff catches up with former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits star Alois Bunjira.
My first school:
"My first school was Zengeza 7 Primary School in Zimbabwe. I was 6 years old, and I was afraid on the first day when we were ushered into our classes. I couldn't wait to go back home and play in the streets [laughs]."
My first kiss:
"My first kiss... ummm... was with Juliana Ndandarika when I was in Form 3. She was in Form 1. I later married her four years later. It was a baby kiss, though [laughs]."
My first child:
"I was only 20 years old, just out of high school and starting my first year at university, when I had my first child, Yolanda. I remember my coach at Darryn T FC, Wieslaw Grabowski, used to tease me by saying, 'How can a baby have a baby?'"
My first PSL game:
"My first match in the South African PSL was at Charles Mopeli Stadium, playing for QwaQwa Stars. I don't remember who we were playing against as I was still very new to South African football."
My first own goal:
"I have never scored an own goal in my life [laughs]."
My first goal in the PSL:
"My first goal in the SA PSL was against Umthatha Bush Bucks, in Umthatha, during my very first game for Wits University after moving from QwaQwa Stars. That stadium pitch was the worst in the SA PSL."
My first individual award in South Africa:
"Besides the many Man of the Match awards, my very first individual award was the Bidvest Wits University Player of the Season and Top Goal Scorer for the club in the 2000-2001 season."
My first trophy with a South African club:
"Eish... I never lifted a trophy in South Africa, although I reached the final twice—once with Bidvest Wits and once with Mamelodi Sundowns."
My first car:
"My first car was a 1993 Toyota Corolla when I was with CAPS United in Zimbabwe as a 21-year-old. However, my first car in South Africa was a Nissan Sentra STi 2.0 when I arrived at Bidvest Wits University. I was told to get rid of the car by President Patrice Motsepe when I joined Mamelodi Sundowns. He said, 'At Sundowns, we don't want these small cars'... hahahaha!"
