Drama as Billiat finally arrives ahead of new deal

Tuesday evening marked Khama Billiat's arrival in Harare, Zimbabwe ahead of his return to domestic football 14 years since he left his hometown for the DStv Premiership.

Billiat briefly played for CAPS United as a teenager before leaving for Ajax Cape Town from where he went on to grow into a superstar at Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.

However, at the back of all the frustrations that have happened since failing to agree on an extension with Chiefs at the end of June, the 33-year-old has decided to pack up and return home.

It emerged last week that the lad from Mufakose had made up his mind on a return home.

This has created a scramble for his services ahead of the start of the Zimbabwe Premier League with as many as six teams all queuing up for his services.

The logical decision would have been to rejoin the club he supported as a kid, Dynamos – who will provide him with the biggest platform for his career revival considering their profile.

The Glamour Boys – as Dynamos are known, are based in Harare and enjoy the biggest support in the capital city plus they will play in the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup.

Khama Billiat is finally back home in Harare, Zimbabwe where he will revive his career.

Unfortunately, just like Billiat's former club CAPS – who have also shown interest, they don't have the financial muscle of the clubs that have emerged in recent years, backed by money from the mining sector who are offering bigger money.

While thin on history that stretches over a decade in topflight football – clubs as Ngezi Platinum, Simba Bhora, and Manica Diamonds, all have deeper pockets which is why they have also been linked with Billiat.

It has now emerged that Yadah FC have become the latest club to be thrown into the pot after those with ties with the club welcomed him upon arrival before taking him away.

There are suggestions Billiat will sign with Yadah and then be loaned to Dynamos.

A deal is expected to be ironed out today with Billiat's boyhood friend Godfrey 'Vokal' Bakasa the 'frontman'.

Bakasa doubles up as the slippery forward's manager.

Billiat has had no stability in matters related to his management since the death of his long-time trusted agent and former footballer Edzai Kasinauyo in June 2017.

After having lasted just a minute in his last appearance back in May, Billiat's last proper run on the field in competitive football was in October 2022 against Orlando Pirates when he played 80 minutes.

Whatever drama unfolds in this saga, staying put in Harare is what will be logical for Billiat.
