Polokwane City suffer severe 'punishment'

Polokwane City's travels through the month of February have come with demands which have evidently taken their toll on the Limpopo club.

City started the month with victory at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on February 1.

From there, it was the road trip to Mbombela from Polokwane, which swallows up to seven hours by bus.

They held on for a goalless draw in that match played on February 5, after which they embarked on the return trip back home on the same day.

After doing their regeneration sessions the next day, they had to get on the bus for a four-and-a-half-hour trip to Johannesburg 24 hours later.

From Johannesburg, they took a flight to Durban to play Richards Bay FC and lost 2-0.

Then, after returning home for three days, they were on the road again to Johannesburg, from where they flew to Cape Town, then proceeded to Stellenbosch for a Nedbank Cup match, which they lost 2-0 on February 13.

Five days later, they suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Magesi FC, before doing a 1450km return road trip to Bloemfontein, where they played Marumo Gallants.

That match ended in a goalless draw.

On Friday, they must be at Danie Craven Stadium to play Stellenbosch FC and by the time they get back home to Polokwane will have their mileage closer to 11 000km for the month all distances travelled.

Worse for Phuti Mohafe is that his team has had injuries to Thabang Matuludi, Tlou Nkwe, Raymond Daniels, and Cole Alexander leaving him with a thin squad.
