According to a statement on Madridejos' official website, emergency services confirmed that the incident took place at 5:13 pm on Sunday when the player began to suffer seizures before medical personnel were immediately alerted.

A doctor and an ambulance rushed onto the pitch and tried to revive the Hadi using the defibrillator, however, the Nigerian youngster eventually passed away on the scene despite doctors trying to save him for half an hour.

The match was suspended, and the Castilla-La Mancha Football Federation, the organisation responsible for overseeing lower tier football in Spain, said they were totally dismayed by the incident and that they remain at CD Madridejos' disposal should they need more support during this unforeseen situation.

Madidejos also wrote on Twitter: "Totally devastated and broken with pain, the entire family that makes up the club, we want to thank all the expressions of affection and support received after the fatal misfortune experienced yesterday.

"Heartfelt thanks to all. Rest in peace Hadi!"

Spain's main football governing body, Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol (RFEF), also extended their heartfelt condolences to the player's loved ones.

"We have run out of words. We send our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Hadi Ado Bala, player of CD Madridejos who died during a match.

"There is no possible consolation, only the wish that you rest in peace."
